A lot of what I do as a doula involves getting expectant mothers ready for birth and being a constant figure of support in preparation for and when they give birth, but my work does not end there.
Motherhood is beautiful, but also completely new for many people, and I act as your personal guide and a constant source of encouragement for you as you navigate the first days and weeks of your child’s new life.
As a doula, I am always flexible in the way I provide care as we all have different needs and lifestyles. Every new mother’s story and family is slightly different. Some mothers need practical breast feeding assistance, others need reassurance on how they can best take care of their baby, whilst others need more emotional support.
I will also provide you with a space to be heard; much like during pregnancy and labour, I am a trained counsellor and provide you with a space to listen to your birth story. It’s so healing to be able to talk through your birthing experience, to share the great bits and discuss any event you’re feeling less comfortable about.
Childbirth brings out a lot of complex emotions. Births don’t always go to plan and women can be left feeling disempowered, low and sometimes traumatised after a challenging birth. Sharing these feelings helps you to fully process your experience and move on.
I also provide advice and information on taking care of your baby, including help with sleeping, feeding and soothing them. Having support with the essential needs of a new baby can really help to adjust to your new routine and assist with early bonding.
I have a large network of amazing birth professionals that I know and trust so if you need more specialist support I can provide you with a number of referrals.
I also provide up-to-date advice so you can make informed decisions during the early part of your journey through motherhood, particularly since there is so much to learn in such a short time.
Finally, I help you to create the best possible start for the next stage in your family’s life so you can all grow and thrive together.
